Look It Is Almost Done!!!

Hey Bron, look it is almost a FO!!! Dsc01289I still have a few more rows to go before I am finished knitting the top but it is almost finished, The pattern is Tishka from Rowans Cotton Braid book but I am not doing this one in Cotton Braid. I am knitting this in Supercotton Color. And I am also knitting it in the round.

I had hoped to have this done last night but my plans were kind of altered by events well beyond my control. The water pipes on the street that intersects mine are being replaced and yesterday the construction crew made a huge boo-boo. Yeah, they hit the valves for my street. And my street is the main street in town. ADsc01285nd water was shut off to several places including mine. And the one valve that was damaged the worst was the one to my house!!!

They broke the valves at noon and I happened to be going out to the post office right than so I know exactly when the water was shut of. The guys from town maintenancDsc01286e said that water should be on by dinner time. Well, I still didn't have water by 4:30 so I decided to go get my nails done and go to the mall. I was told by town hall that water would be back on by 7 pm or no later 8 pm. I got home at 9 pm and I still didn't have water. I called the emergency number for the town water guys but the pager  wasn't working. Luckily, I live in a small town and I have the home phone numbers for the town commissioners and several of the town employees. Well, the one guy from the town water department was not home. So I called one of the town commissioners at home. She told me that she would make a phone call or two and that some one would be calling me back.

Now, you need to realize that I could have always gone over to my parents house or to the fire hall. But I really should not have had to do this since everyone around me had water.

I did get a call from the guy on call for water emergencies and he did come out to take a look to see why I hadn't gotten my water restored. Well, he called his boss who came out. To make a long story short, they jury rigged a water hose to the temporary lines that are in place on the street connecting onto mine so that I could have water last night. There is not that much water pressure from a temporary water line that is really a water hose but it is enough that you can take a shower and do a quick load of laundry. And trust me when you have had no water for several hours, any shower is good.

I am going to finish up my top tonight and get theDsc01288 ends woven in so that I wash it. I want to wear it next week.

Yard Sale Update

I have added new yarns to the yard sale bargains. I still need to add the descriptions and prices. But I won't have time to do this until the morning so if you see something you are curious about please email me and I will try and check my email later this evening and get back to you. Otherwise look for the details tomorrow. And no, I haven't hit the bottom of the pile yet. If anyone is interested in lace weight yarns. please contact me and I will tell you what I have. I used to do a lot of lace knitting.

Yummy Yarn Goodness

Yes, yummy yarn goodness. I had used ArtYarns Super Merino in color 109 to knit a full size Clapotis. While I loved the colors, I just didn't like the way they pooled. But my mother fell in love with it so that means I have to knit myself another one.

But while I was knitting the first one, I realized that the yarn was crocking. I saw some pink on my bamboo needles before I switched to my addi turbos. I also noticed that if I was wearing white, there would be a slight pink haze on it after working on the project. But since the color washed out without any problems, I did not stop and worry about it. But when I went to wash the finished and I went to wash it, the water tuned pink. Even after 3 washings, the water still turns pink. Actually right now, I need to remember to get it out of its bath of warm water and Retayne this evening. (A trick from my days of hand dyeing fabric for quilting.)

Well, I had posted this on my first blog over on Blogger. Iris Schreier of Art Yarns emailed me. The only thing that she could figure was that that batch did not spend enough time in the steamer. She is not only replacing the yarn I used in the first Clapotis but she wanted to send me some yarn yummies.

When I went to the post office today to check my mail, I had a notice that I had a package. I was absolutely floored when I opened the envelope and saw this....

It is a sample of each of her yarns!! The photos do not really reflect the wonderful colors and sheen of the yarns. My old digital camera just does not take the best pictures in the world and I still haven't set up the new computer with the software for the new camera.

I am planning on placing these skeins in a basket for right now and stare at them and fondle them... Well, you get the idea.

I am going to try and go down to Knit Happens tomorrow and see the colors that Kristine has in stock and maybe pick up some more. But in the meantime, here are 2 more closeup shots of the yarns. Look at the way the light reflects off the silk ribbon.

Just imagine how soft the Silk fur feels.

Mvc023sAnd I promise to get the new computer and software set up this weekend so I can get a decent shot of the yarns!

And Iris, a huge thank you!!!!
